Nominating Committee

PUPROSE
The Nominating Committee (NC) supports Trinity Presbytery by nominating all m
oderators and members of the Presbytery Coordinating Team, Administrative Enabling Team, Mission and Evangelism Team, Discipleship and Resource Team, commissions, committees, trustees or board members of institutions, and commissioners to Synod of South Atlantic and  the General Assembly.

How Members Are Elected
While NC members nominate qualified persons to serve in all elected positions, how are members of the NC elected? The Moderator of the Presbytery, in consultation with the Vice Moderator and Moderator of the Coordinating Team, brings to the Fall Stated Meeting of Presbytery nominations for vacancies on the NC, including the name of the person to be nominated to the Presbytery to serve as the Moderator of the NC, giving careful attention to reflecting the racial-ethnic diversity of the Presbytery.

How Vacancies Are Filled
What happens when a vacancy occurs on the NC between Presbytery Meetings? Should a vacancy on the NC occur between meetings of Presbytery, then the Moderator of Presbytery, the Vice Moderator Presbytery, Moderator of the Coordinating Team, and the Nominating Committee Moderator shall make a temporary appointment which shall stand until confirmed by the next meeting of Presbytery.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
In fulfillment of its duties and responsibilities, the Nominating Committee shall:
a.   make nominations after giving careful attention to the principles of representation described in the Book of Order, G-3.0103 and G-1.103.
b.   solicit and consider recommendations from churches, teaching elders of the Presbytery, Moderator of Presbytery, Coordinating Team, Teams, Committees, and Commissions in consultation with the professional staff of the Presbytery.
c.   present their major report to the Fall Stated Meeting of Presbytery each year, with persons elected at the Fall meeting taking office on January 1, unless otherwise specified by the Nominating Committee.
d.   seek to have all Ministers of the Word and Sacrament in the Presbytery nominated to at least one Presbytery, Synod or General Assembly responsibility.
e.   seek to have at least one Ruling Elder from every church serving in a Presbytery or higher council position.
f.   endorse and commend to Nominating Committees of the Synod, the General Assembly, and institutions supported by the Presbytery the names of persons from within the Presbytery for service on their committees, councils, boards, and agencies.
g.   nominate a Moderator and Vice Moderator for the Presbytery for the following year.
h.  nominate persons to serve as Moderators of Presbytery teams, committees, and commissions, all of whom shall be members of the agencies they moderate. 
i.   nominate Commissioners to the Synod of South Atlantic for election by the Presbytery at the Winter Stated Meeting of the year in which the Synod plans to meet.
j.   nominate Commissioners to the General Assembly and alternates, after conferring with the Stated Clerk to determine the number of Ruling Elder and Minister Commissioners and Young Adult Advisory Delegates the Presbytery is entitled to send, with persons elected at the Fall Meeting of the Presbytery.


WHO CAN BE A MEMBER?
​Any member in good standing in a Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) congregation within the bounds of Trinity Presbytery, together with all Ministers of the Word and Sacrament who are members of the Presbytery, shall be eligible for election to this committee.
